Let?s Spread the Book Bug!

Next week is Wainstalls Book Week. The aim is to promote the joy of reading and encourage the spread of the ?book-reading bug?.

Activities include:
- The Scholastic Book Fair in the hall after school each night (remember ? the more money spent at the book fair, the more books we receive from Scholastic on commission).
- Fred Wade books visiting on Monday afternoon (Children can spend their £1 World Book Day Voucher here ? or keep it and take it home).
- Each class will be making a visit to Halifax Central Library (see separate letter for details).
- Special book-related assemblies.
- Storytime sessions where children can choose the class they go to for a story.
- Buddy reading sessions where younger children read their books to the older ones.
- All children will be asked to bring in their favourite book from home to show the rest of the class or the whole school.
- Plus book-related lessons and activities in each class.
And of course, our Book Character Fancy Dress Day on Thursday ? bring in £1 and dress as your favourite book character!

Join Your Child For Lunch Day has proved a great success. Alongside Friday Club, we have seen a real increase in the number of children choosing a School Meal. Thank You for your support ? I hope you enjoyed your lunch with us. (Class 5?s day is to come ? 29/3/06)

No Gym Club next week
Please note that due to the Book Fair, there will be no gym club next week on Wednesday or Thursday. Normal service resumes the following week?#

Are You A GWF?
Our assembly theme this week has been ?Being a Good Wainstalls Friend?. The children have a very good sense of what it means to be a GWF ? honest, caring, a good sport, loyal, a sharer, a good listener and with a sense of humour. Look out for the display coming soon ? it will feature pictures of the many Good Wainstalls Friends we have here.Rags to Riches
The blue bag coming to you this week is from Bags2school - a project which the Friends of Wainstalls is using to transform unwanted items into cash to spend on school equipment and outings.

Could you please fill it with old clothes, bedding, curtains, towels, shoes, belts or bags. They can be in any state as things which can't be re-used will be shredded and recycled. If you've got more than a bagful, you could use a black bin bag for the rest.

We would like the bags in next Thursday (March 23rd) please - no earlier as storage would be a problem - and they can be left in the bike shed in the playground. We'll be loading the lorry at 3.30pm and anybody who can lend a hand (children can help too!) will receive a big welcome. Thanks for your help.

Fruity Fridays
Our Friday Fruit promotion wasn?t a great success last week ? partly I think because we forgot to remind everyone on Thursday. We will have one more go this week so try not to forget ?
Key Stage 2, bring a small school fund contribution on Friday and enjoy a piece of fruit!
